A tribute to Michael Jackson

As a tribute to Michael Jackson’s recent 63rd birthday on the 29th of August 2021, we’d love to pay homage to someone who had such an iconic effect on the music industry.

If ever there was a song that described the musical enigma that is Michael Jackson it would be ‘Music & Me’, a great contender that sums his genius up perfectly. Michael Joseph Jackson was born sixty-three years ago on August 29th, 1958. Hailing from Gary Indiana USA, Michael became the talisman frontman for a sibling group, The Jackson Five, who became one of Motown’s biggest star attractions. His talent was so immense that Smokey Robinson gave him such a high accolade when Michael sang lead covering the ballad ‘Who’s Loving You’. Smokey would comment on how Michael, who was only a preteen could sing that song with so much grown-up emotion. Not only could he sing but Michael was also an incredible ‘Dancing Machine’.

He enjoyed worldwide success with his brothers, recording on both Motown and Sony Epic. This was until he launched his solo career with the legendary ‘Off the Wall’ album which was released twenty-two years ago in August 1979. It was a landmark album working with the collaborative skills of musical genius Quincy Jones and the late Rod Temperton. Michael’s follow up album ‘Thriller’ broke more records than Record Breakers and introduced the world to the first short film by director John Landis. Michael’s other movie credits include starring alongside Diana Ross in the all-black cast movie ‘The Wiz’.

He also recorded at least sixteen solo albums since 1972 before his passing in 2009, with some being released after his death. MJ is regarded as one of the 20th Century’s musical icons whose music touched people all over the world, no matter what creed or colour they were. He was an inspiration to so many and as an artist, he was armed and ‘Dangerous’ with his abundance of talent.
